In our fight with the regime, we must grapple with the ideology of Progressivism. To do that we must ultimately reject the idea of Progress. But for that we must first reject the idea of History.
Chesterton has always had the only definition that makes any sense to me as something that would be worth pursuing IF it was the universal definition:
Progress is a comparative of which we have not settled the superlative.”
– “On the Negative Spirit,” Heretics
“Progress should mean that we are always changing the world to fit the vision, instead we are always changing the vision.”
– “The Eternal Revolution,” Orthodoxy
“My attitude toward progress has passed from antagonism to boredom. I have long ceased to argue with people who prefer Thursday to Wednesday because it is Thursday.”
– New York Times Magazine, Feb. 11, 1923
“Men invent new ideals because they dare not attempt old ideals. They look forward with enthusiasm, because they are afraid to look back.”
– “The Unfinished Temple,” What’s Wrong With The World
