Very interesting stuff, making me lean toward reading more Ellul. I think you might really enjoy Philippe Beneton's Equality by Default, especially the chapters on "instrumental rationality." A late 90s early 00s book by a French Catholic influenced by some aspects of Leo Strauss. An across-the-board cultural critique as powerful as Culture of Narcissism or Closing of the American Mind.
