Great discussion.

A question from those of us with short legs who are huffing and puffing to keep up. How does this apply then vocationally for Christians? The ‘rentier’ concept…is it wrong to profit off the lives of others? Such as literal renters? How face-to-face must our vocations be? Is it proper to make a voluptuous living off being a money-changer?

I will be listening again a few times.

I really appreciated the discussion of moving from priestly tutelage to manly Solomonic wisdom. It is a ‘libertarian’ concept (men ruling themselves) but can only exist well as the Kingdom spreads.

We always seek saphety under the pharisaical hedge of rules, codes, regulations and more laws.

How can Christians live freely like this in a society hell-bent on a king like the nations?

It’s a big issue. Owning a property and charging rent is not a sin. It is the types of rent you charge and how you treat your tenants that is the issue. Are you doing right by your tenants and by God in how you manage your properties? And are you as a tenant doing right by how you treat the landlord’s property? Biblical thinking is always interpersonal. Justice is interpersonal not abstract. As you scale economic relationships up they become abstract and they make injustices abstract. You can argue it’s just “good economics.” In many ways scale helps create this problem. If you are interested, Ron and I talk about these issues with The Black Horse in this episode. https://www.seekingthehiddenthing.com/p/113-why-the-ny-stock-exchange-is

Perfectly stated by Kruptos (not the first, or the last time that has happened).

I will listen.

I’m trying to piece together concrete applications in my mind.

Thx!

Forgive my brevity as I am answering this while out on a jog/walk. Rentier is a fact of life. That's not the issue; the issue is multiplied by massive leverage.
