In this episode I am joined by Todd Lewis who hosts the "In Praise of Folly" podcast. We talk about the factionalism problem on the right, why this problem exists, why it matters and what can be done.
I enjoyed this. In defence of Land (I haven’t read Spandrell), he seems to associate the merchants to the Right because there is an emerging hierarchy out of capital that isn’t characterized by entropy and doesn’t have equality has an organizing principle. Now he makes the point that this hierarchy could come from "outside" but that’s another discussion. Overall, I tend to agree with your conclusion. To support your point, in my reading of Thycidides, I certainly got away with a sense that he identified the merchants as a problem. He described them as manipulating the Athenian democracy to provoke military expeditions to open new markets, hollowing out the city for private gains.

This is not a new problem. Glad you enjoyed the discussion.
"Protestants." You can just say Anglos, with or without perfidious preceding it.
I was thinking of continental Protestants here throughout. Dutch.
Fair enough. Continentals weren't blameless, but many of them at least made an effort to right their wrongs.
