Another great dialogue. This is what academia should be. I was actually happy to see the traffic jam today, knowing that I can listen to you longer.

Three thoughts:

1: It seems "woke is more correct" again when they talk about indigenous ways of knowing.

2: I was heavily into apologetics a couple of years ago. (It was fruitful for me.) I was always baffled by the "fallacy of argument from authority". From a pragmatic standpoint, almost all people will believe almost everything based on simply authority. "Doing your own research" ends up as an infinite regression of pieces of knowledge that's impossible to finish. There are some – the most fortunate, intelligent, and born in the right time – who, after a lifetime of study, might find ONE OR TWO THINGS they believe without "an argument from authority".

"Oh, you believe that just because HE SAID IT?" – yeah man, because I don't have the 30 years that this man put into this field to validate all his arguments. And he also bases most of his findings on things he weren't able to verify by himself.

3: “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Millions of Christians read this passage and think Jesus' response was: "Ackshually Nicodemus, you CAN, and you SHOULD. This is the Christian project. Also, you should be your own mother – and the midwife too. Some guy named Descartes will tell you more in 1700 years about this."

I haven't even got to the episode about Bildung but the revelation about what "objectivity" requires is already shocking. Special thanks to Kruptos for the rant at the end about biblical criticism.

Can't wait to listen to the next episode.

Is the recording clipping out or are my headphones messed up? Regardless, excellent stream as always.

In the opening minutes there was some vagaries of recording over the internet happening, but as it goes along it smooths out. I listened to a significant portion of it to find a good sample clip.

I was convinced the solar winds were conspiring to keep the wisdom from my ears.
